About Kenna

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist...

My mother often recounts to me, when I was graduating kindergarten, I proudly stated, “I want to become a heart doctor when I grow up.” And while I have never enjoyed the sight of blood, I have always deeply valued seeing people's hearts and hearing their stories.

My passion for counseling launched as I searched for healing in my own story. I found that the greatest healing is not in erasing the dark days and hard emotions, but in walking through them with people who accept me and remind me I am not alone.

Now, I get the great honor of walking with others. My hope is to remind you, you are right where you need to be at this moment, courageous! And you are not alone.

My Education and Training:

  • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling – Denver Seminary, Littleton, CO
  • Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies – Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO

What do I do when I am not doing therapy?

You can find me adventuring with friends and family in the great outdoors. I love identifying wildflowers, going for hikes, and sitting in the grass. I find so much joy in being with the people that I love, whether we are chatting at a coffee shop or watching Lord of the Rings for the 100th time.

I also have a passion for the arts. Be it painting, poetry, dance, or music, I am awakened to creative expression in myself and others. I strongly believe that any song is a thousand times better in the car with the windows down.

What is it like to work with me?

I work using a variety of approaches to therapy including person-centered, attachment-based, internal family systems therapy, and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy. I also enjoy working with somatic and adventure therapies.

Courage to be Compassionate

You may be asking yourself “Why am I here?” or “Can this really change?”. If you’re asking those questions you are in the right place! I often tell my clients that going through therapy is a lot like metamorphosis. We often think about the beautiful transformation of caterpillars turning into butterflies as straightforward and simple.

However, we often fail to consider what actually happens in the change process. When a caterpillar forms into a chrysalis they don’t go from caterpillar to butterfly. They go from caterpillar to a pile of “goo” to a butterfly (I know, gross right!) And my guess is there are some parts of you that feel like a pile of goo right now.

Well, you are not alone. Because with courage to face the “goo” season and the compassion to be kind to yourself in the change process, I believe you will find a fuller, more brilliant version of who you have always been.

What does the actual process look like?

First, we’ll have our consultation call to determine that we are the right fit to work together. I’ll ask you about why you’ve chosen to reach out at this time, what your challenges are and what your goals are for therapy.

During the intake, you will share your desired goals and outcomes for therapy, and I will share approaches for how we get you there.  I believe the therapeutic relationship is a sacred space.

I desire that clients can come into each session and be themselves. It is important to me that therapy isn’t just serious but that there are moments of laughter as well. Therapy is a journey of ups and downs, and each individual deserves guided support along the way for a fruitful experience.  Each person has a different story that is worth sharing and is possible to rewrite. Sessions are for the client, and I work to be flexible and creative to create an experience that is catered to your needs and desires. The hope is that we strategically work together for you to grow and thrive in your life.

In my downtime, I also enjoy the transformative power of music, whether it's experiencing it live or streaming from my living room. Music has played a significant role in my personal healing journey, leading me to moments of peace and joy.
